Let’s face it – every nutrition decision you make starts in the grocery store.

If you don’t know what foods to choose…and which to lose, you will continue to struggle in achieving that lean, healthy body you’ve desired.

Over 90% of shoppers make impulse buys – impulse buys will sabotage your goals!

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see people making over and over again…

Willpower is weak and discipline does not last.

One powerful strategy that does not fail is to ONLY buy foods that will help you achieve your fat loss goals.

If it isn’t in your house then you can’t eat it when your willpower is weak right?

One of the nutrition experts I believe in has a really cool resource that you might enjoy!

Check it out:

The “Is Your Grocery Store Making You Fat: How to Shop to Shed the Pounds” DVD takes you step by step – virtually holding your hand – through every aisle in the grocery store, to show you the exact tools only our most successful clients know…

…and now you will know them too to be more successful and reach your goals faster.

Take a gander: http://budurl.com/grocerytruth

I have Dr. Mohr’s DVDs and there are some great tips in here (it goes way beyond shopping in just the outside edges of the grocery store – he tells you exactly what to buy and some of these items may surprise you).

This summer I signed up for a Local C.S.A. and I have been loving it! C.S.A. stands for “Community Supported Agricultrure” and my particular CSA out of little old Concord, New Hampshire is a collective venture of 5 local organic farmers.

Each week I get to go pick up a new basket of farm-fresh veggies and fruits. Here is the description of waht Community Supported Agriculture is from “Local Harvest, CSA in Concord, NH”

“Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a food subscription service where you pay the farmer in winter or spring for a share in the upcoming harvest. This gives local farmers important early season support for seeds, greenhouse or farm supplies, heat and/or labor.

In return, from mid-June through mid-October, we provide you with a weekly box of high-quality, locally grown, seasonally fresh food at an affordable price. You know where your food comes from, you know who grows it and our farms are open for visits.

Along with enjoying good food, you:

Nurture the environment by purchasing from farms that use organic practices which protect NH’s natural resources

Support the local economy and preserve open space by keeping agricultural dollars in NH and keeping local farms in business

Reduce the number of miles your food travels and the amount (by 50%) of fossil fuels used: that conserves energy and promotes sustainable agriculture “

I also recorded a video showing you one of my recent trips to the CSA (I apologize in advance for the shaky camera work).

STOP looking for magic my friend,

No magician will conjur up some fat loss magic that will strip the fat cells from your hips, abs, and butt and magically transform your body. As humans we tend to look for the quick fix but you and I know deep down inside that quick fixes and magic really don’t work (we always hope they do but take a look at your results – have they ever really worked and delivered lasting results???) NOPE….

Here’s a quote from a fat loss expert that will help reveal the truth:

“A lean body does not come from any particular type of exercise or foods per se, it’s the calories burned vs calories consumed that determines fat loss or fat gain.

You might do better by decreasing the calories consumed, whereas I depended more on increasing the calories burned, but either way, it’s still a math equation. Deny it at your own risk.”

-Tom Venuto
Author of http://www.SecretsOfFatBurning.com

Here’s my take on Tom’s Advice and a Few “Take Away” Tips:

I have found Tom’s advice to be true. You see, most people tackle the goal of fat loss by simply cutting calories, eating like a rabbit, and cutting calories but most people don’t really achieve the results that they are looking for.

What I have found with many of my clients is that increasing the “Calories Out” portion of the equation led to much better results (and they still were able to eat the foods they loved).

Here a Few tips To Burn More Calories Each Day:

1. You should be lifting weights or resistance training 3-4 days per week. this is the most important fat burning exercise you can be doing because it not only burns calories NOW but it also permanently shapes and changes your body for the better. The most attractive bodies for men AND women are bodies that have muscle. I’m not talking about “steroid injecting, huge professional bodybuilder amounts of muscle” I am talking about normal amounts of lean muscle mass. Dropping a few pounds of fat and packing on a few pounds of muscle will leave you looking COMPLETELY different, wearing a smaller pants size, and feeling great!

2. Burning calories via walking (shoot for 10,000 steps and measure it with a $20 Pedometer from a local sports good store). Finding ‘exercise opportunities’ throughout your day is a common demoninator amongst lean people. Find ways to fit little bouts of exercise into your daily routine. Park at the back of the parking lot, take the stairs instead of the elevator, do a set of bodyweight squats, squeeze your abs while driving = these “little things” add up and do help.

3. Do some cardio sessions most days of the week. It does not have to be on a stationary bike or treadmill, you can get some great fat burning benefits from hiking, mountain biking, road biking, playing basketball, soccer, and heck, even Kickball! Go swimming, walk the dog, do some cardio and enjoy moving your body!

Its all part of Venuto’s Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle program so if the idea of still eating the foods you
like AND losing fat then you should watch this video:

You should watch this Video from the fat loss guru Tom Venuto (Tom shares his story of when he was fat and how he got to 4% body fat)!

Enjoy the video and Train with purpose,

PS – Tom Venuto is the “real deal” when it comes to fat loss information so if you seriously want to change your life and change your body then take a few minutes and watch this video, you’ll be happy that you did my friend…

By Jason Ferruggia
Author of Muscle Gaining Secrets

Guns, jacks, pipes, hooks, pythons… Whatever you call them, the fact remains that most guys want bigger arms. While they are nowhere near as impressive as a big set of traps, you still don’t want to have and extra six inches of space in your shirt sleeves; that’s for sure. So the question is how to build bigger arms?

The answer is not as simple as you might assume. If it were easy, you would see tons of guys walking around with 18 inch arms. But that simply isn’t the case.

It’s been said over and over again that in order to add an inch to your upper arms you need to gain ten pounds of bodyweight. This advice has become gospel and it seems that nearly everyone agrees with this these days. Real world evidence shows that this is not the case, however. Walk into any public gym on a Monday night at five o’clock and you will see quite a few skinny guys, weighing no more than 170 pounds, who are sporting decent sized arms.

Many of them probably have not gained more than 10 or 15 pounds total since they started training but they all have put more than an inch or two on their arms. This is because localized hypertrophy/ muscle growth will take place if enough volume is present, without a large increase in bodyweight. Look at the calves on soccer players or the forearms on mechanics. But this only happens up to a certain point.

So these young guys read in some magazine about how to build bigger arms and start by doing ten sets of arms two or three days a week. The volume is enough to elicit a growth response and they may even get a good eight weeks out of this and a quick two inches of arm growth in the absence of any significant weight gain. Seems to defy the ten pounds per inch rule, right?

But what happens after that? Where do they go from there? The gains will halt and there will be absolutely no more arm growth whatsoever unless they make some drastic changes. And that is the pitfall of high volume training- where can you go when you plateau? Add more volume? At what cost? How much volume can you add? If ten sets isn’t enough should you try twenty? And then thirty? And eventually a hundred?

There’s nowhere to go with this approach. Like I said, it’s great for some quick gains on your arms but isn’t a long term approach. Once you hit a plateau you have no choice but to start lifting heavier weights and eating more. More weight on the bar and more food on your plate is the fastest way to increase the size of any body part. All the fancy supersets, drop sets, tri sets, pre exhaustion, post exhaustion techniques in the world won’t help in the least if you are not doing those two very important things.

Beginners can train the arms three times per week and intermediate and advanced lifters seem to do better training them twice per week. Stick with big exercises like close grip chin ups, barbell curls, hammer curls, towel curls, dumbbell curls, parallel bar dips, close grip benches, and lockouts. You shouldn’t need more than 2-4 sets of biceps and triceps twice per week to achieve optimal growth, providing that you are always increasing your loads and steadily adding more calories to your diet. After a couple of heavy sets finish your arm workout by getting the biggest pump possible with one or two higher rep sets.

Imagine this my friend,

I want you to imagine the leanest possible YOU in as many different ways as possible.

If you had the exact body you wanted RIGHT NOW how would you stand?

How will being that lean feel?

What will you look like?

Imagine the feelings of success, accomplishment, and pride as you look in the mirror and you see the new lean YOU looking back at you?

To help crystalize this in your mind I have a special video for you that will help you visualize your ideal physique and program your mind with some “3-D Motivation”

Watch this Video

This video was created by Inner Circle columnist Jim Katsoulis, an NLP expert and creator of the “Program Yourself Thin” course.

I’m happy to announce that Jim will be contributing to the Inner Circle on a regular basis in his video column entitled “Mind Over Body” and I chose to make this first episode Fr.ee so Inner Circle Members and non members can get a glimpse of what Jim has in store in his Video Column.

The secret to change lies in your ability to intentionally program your unconscious mind, and when you understand this, change becomes as natural as driving a car or riding a bike.

Your life is the outward expression of the self image that you hold of yourself, and you’ll always live up or down to it.

If you’ve struggled to change in the past it is because you never really believed that you could be “that” person.

Permanent change happens from the inside out. Your beliefs, thoughts, and self talk change and your body follows. In this introductory ‘Mind Over Body’ video Jim reveals one exercise that will help you program your mind with a deeper sense of motivation.

I encourage you to take a minute and watch this short video

1. “If your goal doesn’t excite you and scare you at the same time, your goal is too small.”

2. “When you know your values, get your priorities straight and align your goals with your values, then doing what it takes is easy.”

3. “It’s the calories burned vs calories consumed that determines fat loss or fat gain.”

4. “Support and encouragement from your friends can help get you through anything – especially fat loss.”

5. “Sporadic efforts don’t just produce sporadic results, sometimes they produce zero results.”

6. “Non-achievers sit on the couch and wallow in past failures. Winners use past failures as motivational rocket fuel.”

7. “The leaner you get, the more your body tends to defend its weight, and hold on to remaining body fat.”

Today I have a guest article I wanted to share with you from my buddy Tom Venuto. Tom is an expert fat loss coach and I think he often reveals small details that make HUGE differences in overall results. That’s why I wanted to share this particular article because Tom talks about some Mindset Secrets that can make all the difference in the world.

Enjoy and train with purpose!

Why Some People Quit And Some People NEVER Give Up
By Tom Venuto, CSCS, NSCA-CPT

Throughout my 18 years in the fitness industry as a trainer, nutrition consultant and motivational coach, I have noticed that some people who start a nutrition and exercise program give up very easily after hitting the first obstacle they encounter. If they feel the slightest bit of discouragement or frustration, they will abandon even their biggest goals and dreams.

On the other hand, I noticed that some people simply NEVER give up. They have ferocious persistence and they never let go of their goals. These people are like the bulldog that refuses to release its teeth-hold on a bone. The harder you try to pull the bone out of his mouth, the harder the dog chomps down with a vice-like grip.

What’s the difference between these two types of people? Psychologists say there is an answer.

An extremely important guideline for achieving fitness success is the concept that, “There is no failure; only feedback. You don’t “fail”, you only get results.”

This is a foundational principle from the field of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and the first time I ever heard it was from peak performance expert Anthony Robbins back in the late 1980’s. It’s a principle that stuck with me ever since, because it’s a very, very powerful shift in mindset.

A lot of people will second-guess themselves and they’ll bail out and quit, just because what they try at first doesn’t work. They consider it a permanent failure, but all they need is a little attitude change, a mindset change, or what we call a “reframe.”

Instead of saying, “This is failure” they can say to themselves, “I produced a result” and “This is only temporary.” This change in perspective is going to change the way that they feel and how they mentally process and explain the experience. It turns into a learning opportunity and valuable feedback for a course correction instead of a failure, and that drives continued action and forward movement.

It’s all about your results and your interpretation of those results

Dr Martin Seligman, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, did some incredible research on this subject and wrote about it in his book, Learned Optimism. Dr. Seligman noticed that the difference between people who give up and people who persist and never quit is what he referred to as “explanatory style.” He said that explanatory style is the way we explain or interpret bad events or failures.

People who habitually give up have an explanatory style of permanence. For example, they hit a plateau in their progress and explain it by saying, “diets never work” or “I have bad genetics so I’ll always be fat.” These explanations imply permanence.

Other people hit the same plateaus and encounter the same challenges, but explain them differently. They say things such as, “I ate too many cheat meals this week,” or “I haven’t found the right diet for my body type yet.” These explanations of the results imply being temporary.

People who see negative results as permanent failure are the ones who give up easily and often generalize their “failure” into other areas of their lives and even into their own sense of self. It’s one thing to say, “I ate poorly this past week because I was traveling,” (a belief about temporary behavior and environment), and to say, “I am a fat person because of my genetics” (a belief about identity with a sense of permanence). Remember, body fat is a temporary condition, not a person!

People who see challenges and obstacles as temporary and as valuable learning experiences are the ones who never quit. If you learn from your experiences, not repeating what didn’t work in the past, and if you choose to never quit, your success is inevitable.

One morning you wake up and realize that you’ve had enough. After a glance in the mirror, you make the decision to do what it takes to not only shed the pounds, but to lose belly fat once and for all. The thought of the journey which lies ahead can be overwhelming. You don’t know how to lose the weight, or even if you can, but know you have to try. Many people who want to get healthy and lose weight have felt the exact same way, so understand that you aren’t alone.

Congratulate yourself on deciding to make the choice to not only lose belly fat, but also to better health. Feeling overwhelming as to which diet and exercise plan you should start is a natural feeling. It’s important to understand the key to losing weight and becoming healthier isn’t about a diet, but instead a lifestyle change. Even though the diet industry may want you to buy into the promise of overnight or fast results from trying this or that product, forget about it, because they rarely offer long term results.

You should understand that there are several key essentials to a healthy lifestyle that will not only help you lose belly fat, but will also give you more energy, and make you feel great. It’s a formula that will work, as long as you understand the importance of each key and apply them to your life. The first key is that in order to lose weight, you’ll need to exercise. You don’t have to like exercise, but you do have to do it. One of the greatest ways to burn a lot of calories and boost metabolism is interval training. These are short workouts that pack a punch, and will help get those calories burning. One-pound weight loss on the scale means you’ve burned 3500 calories more than you’ve consumed.

The second key to lose belly fat and successful weight loss is healthy eating. Exercise is essential, but healthy eating is equally, if not more important. Eliminate processed sugars, white breads, pastas, and rice from your diet. They are all loaded with calories, which ultimately add no nutritional value to your body. Instead, eat pastas and breads made from whole grains, which not only offer nutrients, but also offer fiber, which is essential to your body’s digestive health. Eliminate unhealthy fats from your diet as much as possible, and replace them with heart healthy oils such as olive and omega 3s. Eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates. Remember that your body needs all of these to function properly.

The mental game is the last key but is definitely not one that should be underestimated. Many feel that the mental aspect of a healthy lifestyle is the most important of them all. You may find yourself wondering how a mental game would have anything to do with weight loss. Changing your lifestyle is all about making choices. There will be many times you may not want to work out, or make the right food choices, and the battle of the mind will begin. Ultimately, the choice is yours. If you are committed to yourself, and are willing to push yourself even when you don’t want to, you will be successful.
