3 Tips For Maximizing The Power Of Accountability

November 20th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation

Hey,

One of the biggest success principles that I follow is accountability. Having a way of checking in with yourself is important to keeping you on track with your goals - and they don’t have to be fitness goals either. Accountability is useful for every pursuit.

Accountability has a way of motivating me into action. Just knowing that someone is going to ask me about my progress with “X Goal” is enough to keep a fire going, and ensure that I stay on track.

Here are three tips for maximizing the power of accountability.

1. Just Do It - Find a way, any way, to keep yourself accountable. I think the best way is by having a close friend, or co-worker, to check in with from time to time. Set aside a time each week, or every day, to meet with your accountability partner and review your progress. It doesn’t have to be anything formal. You could just talk on the phone for a fewminutes, but having this one ingredient makes a recipe for success.

But there are other ways to stay accountable…

-join a social networking community online with people that have similar goals as yours.

There are so many different ways to stay in touch with people and there is a support community for virtually every different pursuit: blogs, facebook groups, myspace, ning communities, squidoo lenses, paid membership sites, the list goes on.

-Write your goals down and post them somewhere you’ll see them every day.

-Make a weekly checklist of action items that you MUST accomplish to reach your goals.

The key is starting today, starting RIGHT NOW.

2. Find Your Groove - everyone has something that makes them tick. For me, it’s COMPETITION.
Put me in a group of cut-throat competitors and I am likely to succeed - it’s in my blood.

If you’re not into competition, that’s fine too, and there are other hot buttons you can utilize to maximize the power of accountability.

-setting a deadline, and WRITING IT DOWN.

-tell everyone you know that you are going to achieve “X Goal” in “X Amount of Time,” and you’re going to feel “X Times Better” for doing it :)

-decide on a reward for achieving your goal on time.

Anything that will keep a fire under your butt to TAKE ACTION will work perfectly.

3. Be the One to Initiate Accountability.  For some people, asking for an accountability partner is awkward - it’s open and honest, revealing even - and it can be taken as a sign of weakness or neediness by some. Sometimes, it feels like We live in a stand-off culture, and it’s true to an extent.

Be stronger than that, and understand that by asking someone for help, you will build a sense of comraderie and help each other with what is truly important.

3 Reasons I Am Taking Action RIGHT NOW - And Advice On How You Can Do The Same…

September 11th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning · Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Loss Tips · fat burning cooking tips

Howdy,

So I was sitting around a camp fire at my buddy’s Lake House this past weekend with my wife and a bunch of other friends,

We were shooting the breeze and talking about a Caribean Cruise that we were all taking this upcoming November…

One of my friends mentioned that they wanted to get into “killer shape” before
the upcoming tropical trip.

As soon as they said that the gears started turning in my head…

Here’s what I said to the group, “Hey guys, what do you think about having a little competition to see who can get into the best shape before the cruise?”

“We can all throw $100 into the pot and the winner takes all.”

I had them hooked,

We drew up the rules right there, all weighed in that day and took some other tests, and the competition was on!

So,

I am taking MASSIVE ACTION to achieve my goals right now.

Here are my three reasons:

1.  I want to win the pot of money because it will basically pay for my cruise and more importantly so that I have ‘bragging rights’ within my group of friends… :)

2.  I want to be in killer shape before the cruise

3.  I recently was hanging out with a friend of mine, Rob Poulos, who told me about how he and his two children almost DIED in a car accident and his story made me want to take massive immediate action.

Let me tell you,

If you want to make a serious change in your physique and have problems with motivation then I suggest that you set up some ‘artificial’ circumstances that put you on the line:

ie. A Competition…

You can create one yourself like I did with a small circle of friends or you can take advantage of my buddy Rob’s killer offer

(his special bonus package is only available for another 7 hours or so if you’re looking for a great fat loss program to follow)…

Sometimes a competition of a life altering event is what we need to light a fire under our arses to take massive action…

Will this be the year you take Massive Action?

I am…

Hear What You’ve Been Missing - Amazing 173 Pound Fat Loss Story

September 4th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning · Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Loss Diet · Fat Loss Tips

Tom Venuto recently gave me a heads-up about a woman who has, to date, lost over 173 pounds…

That’s right,

173 POUNDS LOST!!!!!!!!

Impressive ehh?

Anyway,

Tom asked me if I would interview her about how she has achieved this great success.

I did some research and discovered that she started off her fat-loss journey at 356 pounds and then went
on to completely transform her body and her life…

What I read about this woman BLEW ME AWAY!!

A week later I got on the phone with her and she poured out:

->  40 minutes of amazingly-emotional insights that
helped her overcome seemingly impossible challenges

->  Life-changing decisions that led to success…

->  How the power of belief transformed her (gotta hear this - it’s powerful…)

->  The driving force that motivated her to change and the belief systems that keep her going through the tough times.

->  She’ll share with you why a sensible and flexible nutrition program is so critical to your long term success…

->  How she transformed her Self Image…

->  How she’s gone from struggling for 3 minutes on the treadmill to long distance cycling for fun and charity.

If you have even considered starting a journey to transform your body then let me be frank with you…

You NEED to listen to this interview.

Go to the link now, join the Inner Circle if you are not already a member, and listen to this interview before you do anything else.  To come listen to it Click Here

A big reason many people DON’T take action is because they don’t believe “it” will work for them…

If you have ever believed that about anything in life before, especiall about changing your body in any way, then I want you to listen to this interview and hear how this woman changed her beliefs and transformed
her life…

I believe and know that you can too.

I encourage you to go listen to this interview now:

You’ll thank me for it later…

I believe so strongly in what Tom teaches that I partner with him in running the premier fat loss support community online and I want you to be part of that community if you are serious about losing fat and changing your life for the better.

I invite you to come hear what you’ve been missing and to join a group of like-minded fat loss achievers just like this woman who can help you achieve the same success.  To hear it all Click Here

Going For Gold - How You Can Learn How To Lose Fat By Developing An Olympic Mindset Like Michael Phelps…

August 15th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Loss Product Review · Fat Loss Tips

Howdy,

Last night I was winding-down at my house and watching the Olympic Athletes ‘go for Gold.’

I don’t know about you but I have been watching the Olympic Games any chance I get,

Last night I watched some Women’s Volleyball, Gymnastics, and some swimming…

I just love watching these athletes who are so focused, so determined, and so mentally-invested in achieving the goals that they’ve been working towards for so long…

For example,

Last night United States Swimmer Michael Phelps won yet another Gold Medal…

Today, I was watching the morning news and Michael’s Publicity Agent was being interviewed.

Michael’s Agent said something that really caught my attention and I think it is something that might be able to help you achieve greater success in all areas of your life and I’ll tell you why in a second.

Michael’s Agent was asked "WHY" he was working so hard to win EIGHT Gold Medals.

This is what he said,

"Michael wants to use his performance to revitalize the sport of Swimming Around The World and all of his efforts are geared towards the greater goal of making that happen."

Here’s why that goal struck me…

        IT’S A HUGE GOAL!!!!!

Think about it,

He doesn’t JUST want to win one gold medal, two gold medals, 3, 4, 5, 6, or even 7,

He wants 8!!!

But, not 8 for the sake of ‘JUST’ winning 8 medals,

He’s doing it for an even GREATER GOAL - a huge vision that he is trying to make a reality,

You might be asking yourself, "What does that have to do with me?"

The lesson here for you is that if you want to accomplish great things in your life that you shouldn’t shoot for ‘just losing 11 pounds, or ‘just fitting into the old pair of jeans,’ or "just" anything for that matter…

Create a huge, compelling vision in your mind that is ‘BIGGER THAN JUST YOU.’

Having a huge VISION can help you plow through obstacles and challenges like they are not even there.

Compare that to the average Joe or Jane who ‘just wants to lose a couple pounds.’

Don’t you think that the person with the bigger, more compelling vision that is bigger then just them is going to stick with the plan, stay the course and stay focused on ‘the gold’ instead of giving into temptation and eating that cookie, or skipping a workout?

So the questions for you to consider are:

-How can you create a compelling vision that is bigger than just you?

-How can you Supersize your little goals into more powerful and inspriring goals?

-How would you act differently about food, exercise, and taking care of your body if hitting your goals wasn’t just for you but for a bigger cause that means the world to you?

-What would you do differently everyday to hit your goals if you had that ‘Gun To The Head’ mentallity that you either hit your goals or die?

Perhaps you’d reach your goals faster, making amazing progess that insprired others, and maybe people will be talking about how great ‘YOU’ are and the amazing things you’ve accomplished…

What if?

LL Cool J’s Six Pack Abs - How He Went From 250 Pounds to 212 Pounds of Lean Rapper…

August 13th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning · Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Loss Diet · Fat Loss Nutrition · Fat Loss Tips · Fat Loss Training

Howdy,

This morning I woke up at my usual time of 5:45 AM, pounded back a glass of water, and hit the gym for 40 minutes of cardio.

After I got home, I cooked up a yummy veggie Omelet, grabbed a cup of Joe, and sat down to eat my first breakfast and read an article about Rap star LL Cool J and his fitness regimen.

From the article, I learned that LL ballooned up to 250 pounds and at the age of 33 he made a decision to change his life.

He hired a personal trainer, ditched the fried foods, started lifting and doing cardio 5 days per week.

Now, in 2008 LL Cool J has reinvented himnself as a lean rapping machine weighing in at 212 pounds of ripped muscle…

(can you say single-digit body fat?)

LL looks RIPPED in these pictures and is the inevetable result of what happens when you mix desire, a proven plan, and hard work together…

His lean body has revitalized his Rap career and launched him into new and exciting directions as well.

For example, LL recently teamed up with his trainer ‘Scooter’ and Nutritionist Dr. Chris Mohr, to write a fitness book, launched a new clothes line for kids, AND a new supplement company ALL expected to pull in big bucks.

Busy guy ehh?

One thing that struck me about LL’s story was that these amazing changes in his physique and his life is that it ALL started with a DECISION,

A line drawn in the sand,

A decision to not settle with a bulging gut and to go tap into the endless amounts of potential that he knew he left unused…

Have you ever wondered what you were capable of - what un-tapped potential you have within you?

You and I both have so much un-tapped levels of success within us and stories like this one about LL Cool J sure as heck motivate me to do more and BE MORE - how about you?

Tap into the potential that is within you and see what you can become…

Making Fitness and Fat Loss a Part of Your Everyday Life

July 22nd, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning · Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Burning Workouts · Fat Loss Tips · Fat Loss Training · Miscellaneous

This past weekend, my wife and I, and a couple of my younger brothers went hiking in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. The summer months are always filled with plenty of physical activity, and we love making an effort to enjoy the outdoors as often as we can. This past weekend, we hiked up Mount Pierce and Mount Eisenhower just for fun.

It was cool and humid, and best of all, there were no black flies or mosquitoes in sight. The way our trail was setup required us to hike the most difficult portion first, the initial hike up Mount Pierce. The trail got gradually steeper and steeper, offering no rest for the weary. The setting was absolutely fantastic, and the birds were chirping all morning. We happened to snap a few short clips with our video camera to show you:

Hiking Mount Pierce and Mt. Eisenhower

I always leave one of these trips with a new life lesson, or several. The major lesson of this trip was one I have learned countless times before, but I always benefit from experiencing it one more time. If you have fat loss goals, then pay attention because this hint will help you burn fat in your training sessions.

The lesson I took home was that the body is capable of anything that the mind has determined to be possible. Taken a step further, if you decide, for example, that you are going to train with high intensity before even attempting a fat burning session - that’s exactly what will happen. You must accept that you are capable of more than you previously thought possible. You must accept that your body can handle a lot more work than it would like you to think.

Walking up a mountain is no easy task, and we had a wide array of fitness levels attending our hike. I took a sort of “back seat” approach during the hike to observe how everyone was handling the training stress (because I’m weird, I know!). I watched as each person went through a transformation in their energy levels, and everyone hit this point at a different time.

The initial stage of this physical transformation experienced by all were those of feeling fatigued, breathing heavily, taking frequent breaks, trailing behind the rest of the group, along with some negative self-talk. Very early on in the hike, it seemed like no one would make it to the top of the first summit. Some were even entertaining the idea of only hiking one mountain that day, when we had all set out to do both.

The next stage of the transformation is what was really cool to witness. With each hiker, all of a sudden, the feelings of fatigue, and the negative self-talk stopped immediately. Very quickly, everybody was more than ready to reach the summit, and then to get to the next peak. A little competition even started to see who could stay in the front of the group. My wife, even started jogging ahead of the rest of us, leading us on at a much faster pace than before.

First, seeing everyone feeling like they should just sit down, take a break, or go back to the parking lot. Then seeing everyone testing their abilities, trying to push further and harder, trying to enjoy competition with themselves and others. It was amazing how each person had completely flipped their perspective in a matter of minutes.

I think everyone left this hike with a new view of themselves, realizing that we are capable of so much more than we like to credit ourselves with. The body is an incredible adapting machine!

I highly recommend sometime setting up an activity in which you can test yourself. And I mean, REALLY test yourself. Push your body to it’s limit, and see what you can achieve. You may find that your fat loss goals are much more in reach than you previously thought.

To your health and success,

John Sifferman, NSCA-CPT

P.S. Anyone else enjoying the outdoors this summer?

P.P.S. Just as a side note, this was my second major hike this summer, and I credit my successful completion of this hike to the fact that I knew I could push my training limits today, because I had done it before already. Doing something hard will make the next time you do it seem like a walk in the park.

Turning Limiting Beliefs About Fat Loss Into Motivation To Burn Fat

July 17th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning Mindset · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Loss Tips · Miscellaneous

Hey there,

I did a ‘mental weight-lifting’ exercise yesterday that was meant to improve my mental outlook on training, and I would like to share it with you. The mind is arguably the most important resource we have for overcoming physical challenges and achieving goals like fat loss.

What we do not consider possible, in our head, will never be possible for our body. Our physical fitness and natural grace and poise is only limited by those negative boundaries we place on ourselves daily.

A Fine Example of Movement Mastery - and a paramount secret for fat loss success in this short video

July 15th, 2008
· Filed Under: Fat Burning · Fat Burning Motivation · Fat Burning Workouts · Fat Loss Training · Miscellaneous · fat loss equipment

Scott SonnonMy coach, Scott Sonnon, posted a very cool video on youtube that I would like to share with you today. It’s just a quick demonstration of him performing his daily personal practice. Most of the movements are considered joint mobility exercises.

(*Note: If you haven’t caught all of the posts in the joint mobility series here at FatBurningBlog, click on the title of this post and scroll down to see a list of the other posts we have put up - but make sure to watch the video in this post first!)

One philosophy that Sonnon and I share is that a beautiful physique comes as a by-product of abundant health. Sonnon seeks health first, and you can tell in this video that this route naturally produces a lean, powerful body that reminds me of a Greek sculpture.

Let me tell you up front that the bottom line when it comes to joint mobility and fat loss is that having a full range of motion at each joint is paramount to fat loss success. I can’t say enough about the benefits I have experienced using this type of training, and I sincerely hope that you are inspired to try it out and realize first-hand how powerful joint mobility truly is.

Along with the joint mobility exercises, you’ll also see Sonnon performing some vibration techniques, some of which I use in my own training. I do get a lot of funny looks when doing these in my yard or at the local YMCA, but the benefits are unquestionable - and I’ll take better health if it only costs some smirks and chuckles from my wife and strangers. I just mention it so that you don’t confuse them with some third-world Shaman ritual - these vibration techniques are not religious by nature, only scientifically-based strategies for relieving tension and stress. Sure, they look a little funny, but they are super effective!

Sonnon FREE TO MOVE Joint Mobility

I wanted to post this because I’d like you to see how truly amazing a daily personal practice can become with consistency. Scott is the creator of this program, and has been using it daily for over a decade himself - so it makes sense that he is a master of his own movement. He is one of my greatest inspirations, and I hope that his movement mastery grabs your attention as it does mine.

I want to encourage you that you can achieve any manner of mastery if you put your mind and effort into it daily. The last thing I want is for you to assume that these movements are unreachable for you. You can move with grace and fluidity, flow! But it must start with a daily personal practice. The exercises in the video are considered advanced versions of the beginner levels. There is nothing outlandish about these movements when you understand that they are just the next level of sophistication - just the next logical step that anyone will reach with practice. Almost all of the exercises in this video are taught extensively in Scott’s joint mobility DVD program Intu-Flow.

You can read my review of Intu-Flow by clicking here.

Or visit Scott’s site directly at http://www.rmaxi.com/products/ifcomplete.htm

To your health and success,

John Sifferman, NSCA-CPT
